The Oath Of Office exists to address two fundamental problems undermining our democracy: loss of accountability and dishonesty in politics.

1. The Loss of Accountability

Every politician has two core jobs:

Represent their constituents on local issues.
Collaborate with other politicians on issues that cross districts.

That’s it. Everything else flows from these responsibilities.

But over time, accountability has shifted away from the people and into the hands of parties, caucuses, and special interests. Constituents lose their voice, and politicians protect themselves with tactics like voter suppression and gerrymandering. What was once solved at the ballot box has been made harder by design.

2. Gaslighting and Lying to Constituents

Trust and giving the benefit of doubt are strengths of human relationships—but many of today's politicians exploit them.

When self-interest and party loyalty outweigh constituent needs, too many politicians retreat: they become less transparent, less accessible, and less honest. By hiding behind opacity, they misrepresent facts while relying on voters’ good faith to escape accountability.

In Pursuit of Our Mission

The Oath of Office exists to restore accountability and end the cycle of deception that undermines our democracy. We demand integrity, transparency, and a return to the true purpose of public service: representing the people.

Across the United States, over 500,000 state and local elected officials take oaths that vary by jurisdiction—most pledging to “protect” or “defend” a constitution. But too often, these oaths fall short of explicitly affirming what matters most in a representative democracy: a public servant’s duty to their constituents and the integrity with which they must perform given the powers they are entrusted with.

At The Oath of Office, we champion the Politician’s Creed—a seven-part pledge that directly ties public office to public trust.

The Oath of Office is the execution arm of Laboratories of Democracy. We work to support, endorse, and equip candidates and elected officials who commit to the Politician's Creed, and in the end hopefully build a better standard for public office. Through The Oath of Office, candidates get more than an endorsement—they gain a community, campaign tools, access to trained coaches, and an infrastructure designed for long-term success.

We’re building a new standard in public service—one where conscience can thrive without fear of party retribution, and where voters can trust that those they elect are there to serve them.

We endorse and support candidates based on their demonstrated commitment to their constituents as affirmed by their oath of The Politician's Creed and reflected in their actions in office.
